Aaron & Briana ::: Starved Rock Engagement Adventure

I am so excited to share this engagement session with you! There are many reasons but mostly because I just love these two! Bri and I go way back and have known each other since our middle school days where we were in the same youth group. Since then she has grown into a dear friend who I think the world of. I remember seeing a picture of her last year with Aaron and knowing right away there was something between them. It was just a simple smiling picture but I could see it all over Bri’s face that this guy was special. From there I would hear more about Aaron and a relationship blossomed. What I love about these two is the depth and maturity in their relationship. They know that marriage is so much more than just a lovey dovey feeling and about a lifelong commitment to serve each other and model Christ. Bri says what she loves about Aaron is not just that she has this mushy, weak in the knees feeling toward him (which is clearly apart of it. Just look at her face in these pictures!) What she loves about him most is that he is a leader and a strong man of God and she knows how important that is to have a rich in love, beautiful marriage. This was my first time seeing them interact together and there couldn’t be a better man for my friend.  What they have is something so beautiful and I admire that so much! So when we were planning the engagement session, Bri suggested Starved Rock as it was a special place to them. They have spent a lot of time hiking there and even got engaged! We had so much fun that afternoon exploring the park and we got some of my favorite engagement photos ever! So enjoy seeing these two and a glimpse of their love through pictures:)

Holistic Sabby ::: My Kombucha Obsession

You have seen me post about it all over social media. If you are friends with me, you have seen me drink it in person. And I have probably tried to convert you at some point to drinking it yourself.
So today I am going to talk a little bit more about my favorite drink : KOMBUCHA!
Say what? Isn’t that the song you sing around the campfire and you are just saying it wrong? Nope:)It is a delicious and nutritious drink and I can’t get enough!
So what is it? Basically put, kombucha is fermented tea. It is made from tea, sugar, bacteria and yeast. Then it sits for days and begins to ferment. This combination creates enzymes and good bacteria that improve our stomach health. The health benefit claims range from better digestion, more energy, and even help fight cancer. There are not many actual studies done on the benefits of it but people swear by this drink and all that it does. I personally drink it for the taste above anything else. So I can’t make any health promises on this but I will say that the role of fermented foods in our diets is so important. Our gut health affects so much and getting probiotics from fermented foods is needed. I will say that I had food poisioning on Tuesday and today I am almost good as new. With the aid activated charcoal (which is another post in it’s self), I loaded up on probiotic rich foods. This included kombucha, fermented carrots, beets, and garlic. So there is something to be said about fermented foods and their benefits. I just can’t enough of the taste. Since I don’t drink pop, this is almost the same feeling as drinking it. It’s fizzy and tart with a hint of sweetness. The first time I tasted kombucha was with my mom and I couldn’t stand it. I thought she was crazy. But then I eased my way into it buying it at the store and became hooked. I would recommend buying it at the store first for new kombucha drinkers. It is a milder taste and you get used to it. That got to be an expensive habit though because I was spending about $20 a week just on this! So we have been brewing at home now and I love it just as much. Our process is starting with green or black tea and mixing it with sugar. At first the amount of sugar scared me, but the bacteria feeds on the sugar and converts it. So you aren’t just drinking straight sugar. Then we put the scoby on top and let the fermenting happen! The scoby is a live organism that contains the yeast and bacteria. The scoby then eats the sugar and grows. You actually can separate the scoby to make another batch. We let ours ferment between 10-14 days. The longer it goes the less sweet it is. Then after that time we add flavors and let it sit a few more days in individual bottles. Strawberry ginger is my favorite! Here is our kombucha shelf. My dad shakes his head at my mom and I, but we love it.

2014-09-04_0001.jpg
2014-09-04_0002.jpg

Here are our brewing jars. We get about 8-9 bottles from one big jar of these. We mark it so that we don’t lose track of time and know what tea we started with.
2014-09-04_0003.jpg

The picture on the right shows the scoby which is the magic ingredient. It tends to gross people out because it is this slimy thing that grows, but it is pretty cool!

2014-09-04_0004.jpg
2014-09-04_0005.jpg

So there is a little more info on kombucha! I have to laugh at myself because I sound like a total hippie, health freak. A year ago, I didn’t know anything about health and now I talk and research about gut health and enzymes and probiotics all the time. Good stuff:)

To learn more about it, I would research it! There are both sides of the camp about whether it is beneficial or not. I for one would drink it even there wasn’t all of that good bacteria!

Feel free to ask any questions and if you live by me you can always try some:)

Ivan & Sarah ::: Romara Place Louisville Wedding

When Sarah first messaged me on Facebook telling me that once she got engaged, I would be her wedding photographer, I totally laughed and shook my head and thought she was kidding. But the day after she got engaged, I realized she was serious! Sarah is an amazing wedding photographer so to be chosen as the photographer’s wedding photographer is a big honor! The funny thing is that I had never met Sarah or Ivan until their wedding! We had been Facebook friends for a long time but I felt like I already knew them. After the first Skype meeting where they had me laughing the whole time, I knew this was going to be amazing! So a few weeks ago I packed my bags and drove to Louisville for my first Kentucky wedding! It was so cool to see Ivan and Sarah in person as a couple. They ADORE each other! The way that he looks and cares for her just melted my heart. I loved hearing from loved ones too just how perfect they are together. All throughout the day I heard stories of these two and their relationship and it was so encouraging! They have such a solid, Godly relationship and I am so excited to see how their marriage will take off and bring glory to God.

Alex & Sara ::: Kane County Fair Engagement

When Sara first brought up the idea to do their engagement pictures at the fair, I wondered why I had never thought of that! You see the fair is a special place for me and I always get super nostalgic when I go there. In my younger days of 4-h, the fair was the highlight of my year. For 5 days we would have our horses there and spend the days hanging out, riding, and walking around the fairgrounds. It is cheesy but I just love going back and remembering all of that! So the timing was perfect that the fair fell on the same day we were doing their pictures! It was such a unique place and makes for some fun pictures. They brought their adorable daughter along too! I give a lot of credit to these two because posing around swarms of people isn’t easy! But they handled it SO well and looked amazing at that!
I am also sharing these because their wedding is this Saturday!! I seriously can’t wait to get them in front of my camera again to capture their big day!

Ryan & Heather ::: Kenosha Engagement

Hello internet world! This blog has been pretty quiet this summer but I am excited to get back to it and share all of the amazing sessions and weddings from the past few weeks!
First up is one of my favorite engagement sessions! I went to high school with Heather and I have had so much fun having her and Ryan as clients. Heather is one of the sweetest people ever! And she loves photos just as much as I do. So that makes my job even better! Even in our emails, I would be smiling because of all of her excitement. I love people like that. Ryan just adores her as well and I love seeing the two of them together. Heather wants a nautical theme for her wedding and had a suggestion to do their engagement pictures in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I had never been but when I saw pictures I fell in love. Then when we got there I was freaking out. I think I just kept saying this is amazing over and over. It was so beautiful! It is a photographer’s dream with so many locations in one spot. I loved that these guys interacted so well that I barely had to even pose them. It was a fantastic day and time I won’t forget!
